Head of Product

Fractional, 2–3 days per week

Mission

To help businesses take control of their energy; reducing waste, lowering cost and laying the foundations for a decentralised, intelligent energy system.

Vision

Heliotec is building the physical and digital infrastructure that is the foundation of  the distributed grid of the future.

We install, own and operate rooftop solar and battery assets across commercial and industrial sites combined  with an AI software platform that provides real-time monitoring, optimisation and control. Our technology enables our installations to  become part of a networked, decentralised energy architecture.

We believe the future grid will not be centralised and passive. It will be distributed, data-driven and dynamically optimised.

Heliotec’s role is to put the assets and intelligence in place today, so customers can reduce waste, participate in energy markets, integrate storage, and ultimately connect into renewable energy communities as regulation and infrastructure evolve.

About Heliotec

Heliotec is a fast-growing clean energy technology company helping businesses across the industrial, retail and hospitality sectors, take control of their energy consumption.

We design, install and manage distributed solar and battery systems, and layer on top an intelligent energy monitoring and optimisation platform that gives site managers real-time visibility and actionable insight into how their buildings consume energy.

But we are building more than reporting software. Our platform is designed to:

  • Reduce waste and improve building efficiency

  • Enable participation in demand response markets

  • Support local generation and storage

  • Help customers demonstrate measurable sustainability progress

We are seed-stage, small and ambitious: three engineers, live customers, deployed assets, and a clear vision of the system we want to build. Now we need senior product leadership to ensure what we build is coherent, scalable and commercially sharp.

The opportunity

We are looking for a senior, hands-on product leader to join the founding team on a fractional basis (typically 2–3 days per week). This is not a large-team leadership role. It is a craft role, with strategic influence.

You will:

  • Own product quality

  • Translate vision into structured, buildable reality

  • Ensure every feature we ship moves the platform forward

  • Help shape how we extract more value from the data and assets we already control

As our installations grow, so does our data footprint. That data should not simply be monitored, it should be leveraged. We are looking for someone who is already thinking about solving tomorrow’s challenges:

  • How can we automatically identify better tariffs for customers?

  • Can we detect system faults before they are visible?

  • Can we recommend operational changes that reduce waste?

  • Can we suggest complementary technologies (e.g. lighting sensors, storage optimisation, load balancing)?

  • How do we evolve from monitoring platform to intelligent energy advisor?

You’ll report directly to the CEO and work closely with a small engineering team, as well as our commercial function as sales continue to accelerate.

If you have operated at CPO / VP Product level, but still enjoy writing precise requirements, interrogating data structures, and sitting beside an engineer to tighten a workflow - while also thinking creatively about how a platform evolves - this role will suit you.

What you’ll own

1. Product Clarity & Quality

  • Act as the quality gate between engineering output and product intent

  • Translate conceptual ideas into detailed user stories, clear acceptance criteria and logical data definitions

  • Maintain and prioritise a clean, execution-ready backlog

  • Introduce lightweight but effective QA discipline appropriate for a seed-stage team

  • Ensure what ships is intuitive, commercially aligned and robust

You will raise the bar on precision and usability.

2. Platform Architecture & Roadmap Discipline

  • Pressure-test architectural and structural decisions for long-term scalability

  • Shape a roadmap that balances commercial urgency with platform integrity

  • Identify where product investment most directly drives retention, operational efficiency and differentiation

  • Help avoid reactive feature-building that creates unnecessary complexity

This role is about building foundations, not just features.

3. Data & Value Innovation

  • Identify how our growing data set can unlock value for customers

  • Explore intelligent automation e.g. tariff optimisation, anomaly detection, predictive fault identification

  • Translate energy consumption patterns into actionable recommendations

  • Shape features that move us from monitoring to optimisation and advisory

  • Partner with engineering to define how data architecture supports long-term intelligence

We believe there is significant untapped value in the system we are building. This role helps to materialise this value.

4. Customer & Commercial Integration

  • Spend structured time with customers and the sales team

  • Understand how site managers, installers and asset owners actually use the platform

  • Diagnose friction in workflows, from site evaluation through to asset monitoring

  • Translate commercial insight into prioritised product decisions

  • Support sales conversations where product depth is required

Our platform must reflect the operational realities of distributed energy, not assumptions.

What we’re looking for

Experience

  • 10+ years in product management

  • Experience at CPO, VP Product or Head of Product level

  • Strong B2B SaaS background (energy, proptech, infrastructure, fintech or hardware/software integration experience helpful)

  • Proven ability to operate as “the product function” in early-stage or resource-constrained environments

  • Comfortable working closely with small engineering teams across the full lifecycle.

Profile

  • Strategic thinker who enjoys detail

  • Exceptional written clarity; your requirements eliminate ambiguity

  • Commercially literate; you understand unit economics and value drivers

  • Comfortable in a founder-led, fast-moving environment

  • Genuinely interested in energy transition and distributed infrastructure

You do not need to be a solar expert. You do need to care about building infrastructure that works in the real world.

The package

  • Competitive day rate or retainer, commensurate with experience

  • Equity participation available for the right candidate

  • Flexible working: primarily remote, with occasional in-person sessions with the team and customers

  • Real influence over the direction of a company solving an important, and very real, problem

How to Apply

Please send a brief covering note and your CV or LinkedIn profile to jobs@heliotec.energy. We're particularly interested in hearing about a product you're proud of and why, and how you've navigated the challenge of building great software with limited resource.
